The Federal High Court in Minna, Niger State, has directed the arrest and jail term of the Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya, for contempt of court.
This order was given out by Justice Halima Abdulmalik, who stated that the order followed a notice brought before the court pursuant to Order 42, Rule 10 of the Niger State High Court Civil Procedure 2018.
According to Justice Abdulmalik, Yahaya should be kept in Minna correctional custody for contentions of the order of the court on October 12, 2022, and the Army chief will remain in jail until he is removed from all contempt.
Reports meanwhile had it that Justice Abdulmalik had additionally issued an order for the Commandant Training and Doctrine Command, Minna, Major General Olugbenga Olabanji, saying that he should be arrested and imprisoned for committing a similar offense to Yahaya’s.
The case has been adjourned to December 8.
