Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, has made a plea to drivers to use substitute routes in order to avert traffic congestion, as extensive repairs on the Adekunle exit of the Third Mainland Bridge are scheduled to commence today, Monday, November 5.
Kesha had made the appeal on Sunday while speaking at a World Press Conference on the 11.8 km Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
Kesha had said that the Adekunle exit ramp would be closed to traffic from 9.00 a.m. for a two-week rehabilitation after which work would shift to other areas.
She highlighted that the Adekunle section of the Third Mainland Bridge had four ramps, which included a convergence point, adding that renovation of all the ramps would be finished within five weeks.
According to her, the sensitisation became requisite to guide motorists, assuring them that the Third Mainland Bridge was open and free for use except for those who would want to connect Adekunle from the bridge.
Motorists had also been urged to make use of substitute routes like Carter Bridge, Gbagada, Ikorodu Road, Ojota, and Funsho Williams Avenue, to prevent traffic jam on the Third Mainland Bridge.
Kesha guaranteed commuters of the presence of strategic signage, billboards, and on-site traffic officials to help motorists reroute. Finally, motorists had been encouraged to exercise patience and obey traffic rules and traffic officials for the duration of the repair.
