The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris has stated that food security was vital to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
According to a statement, Suleiman Haruna, the Deputy Director of Press at the Ministry released, Idris had made this revelation during a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, Vyacheslav Bril, to his office in FCT Abuja on Wednesday, October 4.
According to Haruna, the Tinubu-led federal government had declared an emergency on food right from the get-go because it was the only way to stop food importation.
Haruna had also revealed that the Republic of Belarus had technology and expertise in agriculture that Nigeria could draw from.
He had remarked that the country could avoid food imports by boosting its ability to produce sufficient food for its citizens.
“With the availability of cultivatable land, human resources, and a big market, the only thing lacking is technology and the necessary investment in the value chain.
The Minister then further assured the Ambassador to Belarus that Nigeria was ready to partner.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, His Excellency Vyacheslav Bril, in his own part had said that the Republic of Belarus was export-oriented and formidable in agriculture.
Further stating that Belarus was in charge of an almost 30 percent fertilizer production in the world. A feat that is vital for food security worldwide.
