The Nigerian government has also resolved to slash the sponsorship of Nigerian students who are on government scholarships and are pursuing their studies in Moscow, Russia.
This change was made public in a letter that was written on the 23rd of July 2024 and was signed by the Director of the Federal Scholarship Board, Ndajiwo H. A. who acted on behalf of the Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman.
For these students, it was disclosed in the letter that the monthly payments have been slashed down from $500 to $220 only. The money given to them when they complete their studies has also been reduced from $2,500 to $2,000, while the amount provided for postgraduate research has been reduced from $1,000 to $500.
Previously, each student was awarded a total of $5,650. However, with these changes, the total sum which they shall receive is $ 4,370. It is also necessary to point out that allowances for health insurance, special travel costs, and medical expenses remain untouched and are still $200, $700, and $500, respectively.
