The Federal Government has cancelled the contract given to Julius Berger for building the Abuja-Kaduna highway. This was done because of delays and problems with the costs.
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, shared this information during the inauguration of the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road in Abuja.
“The contract, which was given in 2018 for N391 billion, has been very slow in finishing the Abuja-Kaduna part,” Umahi said.
The Minister said the cancellation happened because Julius Berger didn’t finish the project on time and kept asking for changes in the cost.
“The company’s work on the project has been bad, and the government won’t accept this anymore,” Umahi stressed.
The original cost of the contract was N391 billion, but Julius Berger asked for many changes, raising the cost to N903 billion.
The government didn’t agree to this and decided to split the project into three segments.
