A fire that had broken out in the early morning of Monday, November 28 at Main Market in Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State has razed some shops and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
A trader who identified himself as Obi Barth Ifediora confirmed the incident, saying that two blocks of shops in Kano Street of the market had already been gutted by the fire down.
According to sources, the fire had begun at about 1 am on Monday, November 28, and the raging inferno had defied all efforts, made by firefighters from the state fire service to put it out.
Meanwhile, the Director/Chief Fire Officer of Anambra State Fire Service, Engr. Martins Onyedịkachukwu Agbili has confirmed the incident, revealing that he had promptly deployed his men to the scene of the incident when he received a distress call about the fire.
As of the time of this report, however, the level of destruction occasioned by the fire outbreak has not been fully ascertained and casualties are still not known.
