An inferno has gutted a mini shopping complex consisting of about 20 shops in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Several goods worth millions of Naira had been burned down as a result.
This inferno had occurred at Fufu Street, Sabo-Oke area of Ilorin, in Ilorin East Local Government, on Saturday, July 29.
According to a representative of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, the fire incident had began at approximately 5.57 am, due to a power surge in the complex.
Upon being notified about the distress call from a resident, the Kwara State Fire Service had quickly dispatched its firefighting team to the scene.
The firefighters shortly arrived the scene, and immediately began to suppress the flames to prevent the fire from spreading any further.
Fortunately, the fire was brought under control with the aid of a specialised firefighting equipment.
Several shops in the complex had been saved from the inferno as a result of the prompt efforts of the firefighters.
Meanwhile, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, had warned residents to inculcate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances before bedtime and before leaving a room, as it would greatly help prevent against fire outbreaks, in case of power surge.
Hopefully, certain measures would be put in place in the shopping complex going forward, to avoid heartbreaking incidents like this from happening again.
