Fireboy DML ‘roasts’ the music industry in the country in this article. He explains that even if the music was great, a proper structure is needed in the industry, to convert foreign fans to the African soul, inadvertently helping the country’s dismal tourism sector.
Famous Nigerian singer, Adedamola Adefolahan, aka Fireboy DML, has disclosed why it’s difficult for Nigerian artistes to tour the country in spite of selling out arenas worldwide.
According to Fireboy, the Nigerian music is “quintessential and superb”, but it lacked structure, making it very hard to tour the country.
The singer had aired his frustration during a recent interview with the Radio station: Cool FM Nigeria, Lagos, hosted by Kayode Oladotun, aka Do2dtun.
In Fireboy’s words:
“Everybody’s always saying ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ Our music is perfect but we lack a structure.
“The [foreign] fans are engaged, they are listening [to our music] but when will they fly to Lagos and watch us perform in the motherland?
When is the industry going to construct arenas in Lagos where we can bring out fans from all around the world? [You know], a structure will definitely make everything easier.”
When Do2dtun asked if Fireboy thinks Nigerian fans could afford to pay for arena shows, the artiste said, “Yeah, they will. We already are [paying].”
“We just need to give people the incentive to pay. If you build a proper arena in Lagos, people would want to pay [gate fees] because they know that they would be safe and free from harm.”
