Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has sealed the deal for Lamine Yamal over the long term, however, if the wonderkid will not be the winner of the Ballon d’Or this year. Barca have been fortunate to have Yamal, for whom he scored 20 goals and provided 23 assists from the beginning of 2023-24 season to the present date.
Besides that, he was also well-known for his supreme dribbling ability as he managed to successfully complete 262 take-ons which is higher than any other player in the five major European leagues during that period. The 18-year-old has gathered a lot of attention not only for his brilliant play in Barca’s domestic treble last season but also for his performance at the beginning of this season where he has scored two goals and provided three assists in LaLiga.
However, the 18-year-old Yamal, who has been out of action for the last two matches due to an injury, will most probably not be able to take the field for the game on Sunday against Getafe.
Flick responded to the question of whether Lamine will pick up the Ballon d’Or award on Monday saying he didn’t know but was pretty sure that the moment of the youngster will come. “Lamine will be the one to take this trophy home, one day,” he said. “No matter who it is that will win it this year, they will be the most deserving, but just to be nominated is to be among the elite.”
The team from Barcelona who are currently second in the table stand two points behind the leaders Real Madrid will have to face a difficult challenge at Getafe who are fifth and have won three games out of four.
