In 2020, Nigerian youths stood up and fought against police brutality and harassment, although several amendments were made by the Federal Government to the police force, despite this there are still cases of police harassment and brutality.
On Wednesday a Twitter user shared a video where some police officers were assaulting a man because he refused to give them his phone.
The video was captioned, “No drugs nothing, no evidence. Why ask for a phone for no reason? I don’t know why #PoliceNG #BenHundeyin.”
Reacting to this, the Spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi has ordered that an investigation be conducted as regards this issue.
He directed Benjamin Hundeyin the police spokesperson for Lagos State to look into the incident and further directed that the victim who was harassed should message him as he is interested in unraveling the truth behind the incident.
Reacting to the video the force spokesperson said, “Ben, fish out these policemen for investigation. We need to look into this. And the victim should send an sms to me, personally as I need some info from him or them. I am interested in this disgusting scene/drama. Thanks.”
It has been rightly said and submitted that our police force needs rehabilitation, and close monitoring because some of the acts carried out by our police are so bad they would tarnish the image of the Nigerian police, at home and abroad.
