President of basketball operation of the Toronto Raptors in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Masai Ujiri, announced today that four new Basketball courts would be unveiled in Lagos, Nigeria later this month as flag off for the Giants of Africa initiative.
The Nigerian-Canadian basketball executive stated last month that his plans to build 100 basketball courts in Africa, will start when he visits Nigeria.
The courts that are ready to be unveiled by Ujiri and his other representatives when they arrive the country are; Ilupeju Grammar School, Oworonshoki, New Practice court for Lagos Warriors Basketball Club and Ijeshatedo Grammar School.
The Giants of Africa initiative was co-founded by the Raptors president with the desire to help young African minds to dream big, and explore every possible opportunities regarding their future in Africa and around the globe.
The initiative will stretch for years and the first phase has started with over ten courts already built, some remodelled and ready to be unveiled across African countries like Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya Tanzania and Burkina Faso for the next three months.
According to Ujiri, other parts of the project will be revealed in years to come, and will be prudently situated in ‘underserviced’ communities in Africa.
