A devastating gas explosion rocked a department store in Taichung, Taiwan, killing at least four people and injuring 24 others on Thursday. The incident occurred on the 12th floor of the Taichung Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store, where construction work was underway.
Explosion Causes Widespread Damage
According to the fire department, the explosive blast caused significant damage to the building, affecting floors 9-12. Fortunately for everyone, the food court on the 12th floor was closed at the time due to the ongoing construction work.
24 People Suspected Injured and Emergency Response
The health ministry reported that one of the injured individuals is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has called for an expedited investigation into the cause of the explosion, ensuring that those responsible are held to book.
