Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has granted pardon to 90 inmates across the Correctional Centres in Kano State, in celebration of the Holy Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Mr. Musbahu Lawal, the Kano Command of The Nigerian Correctional Service made this known on Saturday in a statement he issued.
The statement revealed that the inmates were pardoned and released based on their categories of offenses.
“About 77 inmates’ fines were settled and compensated for, while 10 Inmates on Death Row -IDR were additionally pardoned by the governor.”
Amongst the 10 inmates on death row, three were sentenced to life imprisonment, including a female prisoner, the statement read. The Correctional authority claimed the good behavior and dedication of the freed prisoners, towards their reformation programs and had displayed remorse for their crimes.
The statement further revealed that in addition to the freedom, Governor Ganduje was also offering them the sum of N5,000 each, to serve as their transportation fare.
The Comptroller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Mr. Sulaiman Inuwa, praised the governor on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Mr. Haliru Nababa. He expressed gratitude to the governor for the relentless support and assistance to the command over time.
It was also revealed that Ganduje donated cows, rams, and rice to the inmates, to celebrate Eid.
