Alejandro Garnacho has cast doubts on his Manchester United future after not being on the first-team for the Europa League final game against Tottenham. The 20-year-old was a regular in the European matches of United, starting from the round of 16 until the final match, where coach Ruben Amorim decided to play Mason Mount instead.
Garnacho was sent onto the pitch with only 19 minutes left to chase the equaliser but somehow they lost 0-1 to Bilbao. The loss was the last straw and it means that the Red Devils did not have a single win in their very poor campaign, now standing 16th in the Premier League with only one game left.
“Until we got into the final, I had played every round. And I played 20 minutes today… I don’t know,” said Garnacho to the reporters after the match. “We didn’t get any points in the last matches of the league. We were missing a lot of things.”
The Manchester United player, who had been rumored to be heading to Chelsea and Napoli last January, added that the outcome of the final and the club’s current position would be the deciding factors in his case. “The final will influence [my decision], but the whole season, the situation of the club [will too],” he said.
Garnacho’s brother joined in on the rumours by claiming that the player had been “thrown under the bus,” while Amorim articulated his choice, affirming Mount’s feats in the semi-finals.
In other words, it is the Garnacho family’s statement that provides us with new arguments about the future of the young player.
