Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Governor has directed the chairmen of the 20 local government areas in the state, their deputies, and councilors altogether to step down with immediate effect.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, announced this in a statement on Saturday, October 8, in Bauchi.

According to Gidado, the directive was in line with Section 2 (i) of the Local Government System Establishment and Administration of Local Government Councils Law of Bauchi State, 2013 as amended.

This means that the tenure of the local council chiefs will expire on October 10.

A part of the statement issued read: “His Excellency, the governor acknowledges the outgoing Chairmen, Deputy Chairmen, Councillors, and Secretaries for the services they have rendered to the state and have wished them success in their future endeavors.”

“They are, however, expected to hand over to the Heads of Administration of their respective Local Government Councils on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, pending when new elections will be held to vote in new officers or the constitution of a new Caretaker Committee.”
