Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has officially sworn in 44 newly elected local government chairmen, all members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). During the ceremony, the governor encouraged the chairmen to manage their resources with care and focus on accelerating grassroots development to bring real benefits to their communities.
A Call for Prudence and Grassroots Development
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of wise resource management, reminding the chairmen that responsible governance is essential for delivering meaningful services at the local level. “Use your resources prudently,” Yusuf urged, highlighting that effective management is key to providing true dividends of democracy to the people.
Certificates of Return Issued by KANSIEC
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has issued certificates of return to the newly elected officials, both in the executive and legislative branches of local government. This follows the Kano State High Court’s decision to allow the elections to proceed, effectively dismissing challenges from opposing parties.
Court Upholds KANSIEC’s Authority
The legal case, overseen by Justice Sanusi Ma’aji, concluded that KANSIEC holds constitutional power to conduct and supervise local government elections across Kano’s 44 local government areas (LGAs). This ruling resolved an attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 other parties to halt the electoral process.
Security at the Polling Units
Local security during Saturday’s election was maintained by vigilante groups and officials from the Kano Road Transport Agency, Karota, following the Kano State Police Command’s compliance with a court order to refrain from participating in the election. This ensured that the election could proceed smoothly and securely, as reported by correspondents who monitored the process.
