Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna State Governor, had on Monday, May 22, approved the dismissal of the traditional rulers of the Piriga and Arak chiefdoms, His Highness Jonathan Paragua Zamna and His Highness General Aliyu Iliyah Yammah (retd).
This sudden development was announced by state and local government Chief Umma Ahmad who released a statement on the sacking. Additionally, the Kaduna State Government had also broadcast the news through its Twitter account.
According to Chief Ahmad, the traditional ruler of the Arak chiefdom was dismissed because he had an unacceptable response to the state government’s request to appoint four district chiefs without permission and claimed he did not reside in his territory. Ahmad also announced that the traditional Piriga ruler had been ousted because of the communal conflict between the Kitimi and Gure communities. She added that the removal of the monarch has been in line with the provisions of Article 11 of the State Traditional Institutions Act No. 21, 2021.
The statement indicated that the Piriga chief’s duties would be overseen by Garun Kurama, the district head, Chief Babangida Soule, and the city council secretary would be instructed to appoint a new chief.
This news is coming less than 24 hours after El-Rufai announced his intention to continue laying off bad workers in the state government and demolishing illegal structures in Kaduna until his last day as governor.
