Authorities in northern Greece announced the successful seizure of numerous packages of cocaine hidden within containers filled with bananas. The shipments, originating from Latin America, were intercepted by the police at the port of Piraeus. After transferring the suspect containers to the port of Thessaloniki, law enforcement discovered 100 bricks of cocaine weighing a total of 161 kilograms.
The seized drugs, with an approximate street value of €3.2 million, were intended for distribution not only within Greece but also across other European countries. This operation is part of an ongoing investigation launched by Greece, in collaboration with North Macedonia authorities and the U.S. anti-drug agency. It follows a prior seizure of around 100 kilograms of cocaine, also concealed in banana containers, at a warehouse in Thessaloniki. As a result of this investigation, 14 individuals have been apprehended in connection with this case.
