Pep Guardiola Pep Guardiola says he will never ditch his approach despite a difficult season for Manchester City, who take on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday.
City’s defence of their title has been unconvincing this season in the Premier League and they have a battle to secure Champions League qualification. Despite these miseries Guardiola will stay true to his plan. “I will not change,” he said. “It does happen to all the teams in the world. I think we will be even better next season.”
City, who beat Aston Villa in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, still have a 95.7 per cent chance of finishing top five. But the FA Cup still offers them their only shot at a trophy this campaign. With Guardiola looking to not suffer his first trophyless season at City since arriving there, he is eager to finish on top.
City are hoping to make it to their third FA Cup final in a row and extend their record run of seven straight semi-finals. But they take on a Forest side with all the desire in the world, in their first Cup semi-final since 1991.
“Forest are a difficult, difficult opponent,” Guardiola cautioned, though he did have praise for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Ederson has trained but Erling Haaland is still out for Sunday’s match.
