Not less than three policemen were reportedly shot dead by gunmen on Saturday night.
The unfortunate incident which took place at the border checkpoint along the Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway had allegedly been perpetuated by bandits, who, according to reports had operated in two Sienna buses.
Another policeman who was shot in the leg is receiving treatment at a hospital in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital. The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Sunday, January 28 confirmed this incident.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Chris Anyanwu, had said, “The attack by gunmen at Ebonyi/Enugu boundary took place at about 6 pm on Saturday, January 27. Three police officials of Operation Safer Highway were fatally injured and on being rushed to the hospital, were confirmed dead.”
