Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is reportedly close to becoming the highest-paid player in the Premier League, thus outdoing his team-mate Kevin De Bruyne, according to reports filtered through Marca.
De Bruyne is currently the best-paid star in the league, on a reportedly mouth-watering £425,000 a week. Haaland, at basic wage of £375,000 a week, already puts him among the top earners at the club.
However, Haaland’s deal involves significant bonuses pertaining to his on-field performances, which could push his remunerations past £850,000 per week.
A new contract currently under negotiation will further bump this up, and he could secure a net annual salary of £20.5 million (€24 million/$27 million).
Having joined Manchester City, Haaland has had a dream start to his career in the English team, making an instant impact and winning numerous titles with it since his arrival. The new contract would show increased importance to the team and the Premier League.
If the deal happens, Norwegian forward Haaland will leap above De Bruyne and set a new benchmark for player wages in English football.
The rise of Haaland to the top of the Premier League’s earning chart underlines his immense value to the reigning champions.
