Harvey Weinstein, 72, has been hospitalized after receiving alarming blood test results. The former movie mogul, currently held at Rikers Island, was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in New York City for immediate medical attention.
His lawyers have filed motions concerning his treatment in jail: too little medical care, among other issues. Weinstein suffers from chronic myeloid leukemia, diabetes, and other serious health problems, which have taken him to the hospital several times.
This is the latest in a line of health setbacks for Weinstein, who underwent emergency surgery in September and earlier this year was hospitalized after contracting COVID-19 and pneumonia. His lawyers filed a $5 million claim against New York City, alleging negligence in caring for him.
Weinstein will face a retrial in 2025 after his conviction of rape in 2020 was overturned. He has denied all allegations against him.
