Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has called on Nigerians to maintain their trust in democracy, despite the challenges encountered during the country’s democratic journey. In a statement issued to commemorate Democracy Day 2023, Governor Obaseki praised the determination of Nigerians to collectively work towards the advancement of democratic principles.

Despite the nation facing numerous obstacles, the Governor acknowledged that Nigerians have remained steadfast in their pursuit of a united and prosperous country, where everyone has the opportunity to aspire, dream, and thrive in a society that values freedom. He emphasized that Nigerians have consistently demonstrated their preference for democratic governance, urging everyone to continue playing their part in consolidating the progress made on this democratic path, despite the occasional setbacks.

Governor Obaseki encouraged Nigerians to maintain their faith in democracy and sustain the momentum in strengthening the various institutions. This, he emphasized, would contribute to the betterment of society through enhanced representative government, as the nation strives for sustainable growth and development.

Democracy Day is always a remarkable day for Nigerians, as it’s a reminder of how we’ve evolved from being ruled by the military to selecting our leaders ourselves, where our rights are durly guaranteed, where no one is seen as above the law. Most importantly it’s a reminder of the Labours of our heroes past.
