Veteran Highlife musician Mike Ejeagha, widely celebrated for his mastery in turning Igbo proverbs and folklore into timeless music, has died at the age of 95.
The music icon breathed his last on Friday evening around 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, after battling a long-term illness.
His eldest son, Emma Ejeagha, confirmed the news during a phone conversation with Vanguard.
Ejeagha rose to prominence in the 1980s, becoming a household name with his unique brand of Igbo folk-inspired Highlife music.
His songs, often laced with moral lessons and traditional wisdom, resonated deeply with audiences and played a significant role in preserving Igbo cultural heritage through music.
His legacy lives on as one of the most influential voices in Nigerian folk and Highlife history.
