Seven prison officers in Hong Kong have been arrested and suspended from their duties after allegations of sexual assault and gang rape surfaced. The city’s Correctional Services Department announced the arrests and suspensions on Wednesday, stating that any violation of the law would not be tolerated.
The incident came to light when a 31-year-old woman reported to the police that she had been raped in a unit located in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui district on July 9. Following an investigation, the police apprehended seven local men between the ages of 23 and 38 on July 11 and 12, suspecting them of involvement in the rape.
All of the arrested individuals are currently in police custody for further investigation. According to reports, the female victim had been invited to a party at an apartment complex in Tsim Sha Tsui, attended by the seven correctional officers. It is alleged that three male officers raped the woman while four others engaged in lewd behavior by watching the incident beside the bed.
The victim, who claimed to have been intoxicated and unconscious at the time, reported the crime to the police after regaining consciousness the following morning, finding herself alone and unclothed in the apartment. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough investigation.
