The Bayelsa State Members of the House of Representatives had yesterday, October 17, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly declare a state of emergency in the state over the destructive floods in the country.
In recent reports, over 600 people had been killed and several hundreds of thousands displaced by the floods in about 31 states in the country, Bayelsa included.
Fred Agbedi, who is the leader of the Bayelsa State caucus, and other four lawmakers made the plea at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.
According to Abedi, the caucus was aware of the several, disheartening challenges the flood had caused and the need for a timely intervention by all. It was also revealed that the caucus was working in partnership with relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government to bring succor/aid to the flood victims.
