Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known for her hit track Omije Ojumi, has passed away.

Her death was confirmed on Tuesday in a brief statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artist Ayo Melody on behalf of her family.

The post, which included a photograph of Akinnaanu and a video of her remains, stated that she died at a Lagos hospital.

How Gospel Singer Bunmi Akinnaanu Battled Illness Before Her Demise

“With great sadness  we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,” the statement read. “May God grant her eternal rest .”

Akinnaanu’s passing comes just months after she publicly requested prayers and divine healing while battling a serious leg condition. In October 2025, during a service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, a video captured the singer seated with her leg extended on a chair, receiving prayers from a pastor.

An intravenous (IV) line attached to her hand highlighted the seriousness of her condition. The minister addressing the congregation noted that she had been suffering from persistent bleeding in her leg, which he described as a spiritual attack, referring to it as an “arrow.” He prayed against what he called the “spirit of death,” commanding it to leave her body.

Bunmi Akinnaanu, who began singing at the age of 10, left a banking career to fully dedicate herself to music. She rose to fame with Omije Ojumi, a song that resonated deeply with Nigerian Christians and became a mainstay in churches and homes nationwide. She continued to release uplifting tracks over the years, including O Ti Sure.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fans and colleagues following the news of her passing.
