Ex-England forward Paul Merson is happy over the inclusion of James Maddison and Connor Gallagher in the Three Lions squad for the 2022 world cup.
According to Paul Merson, he is happy for both players, especially Gallagher considering Chelsea’s poor season, he thought he won’t be allowed to represent England
“I’m so pleased for both James Maddison and Conor Gallagher for making England’s World Cup squad. I did not see the latter’s inclusion coming -nobody gave him a chance after a difficult season with Chelsea,” Merson said.
Maddison has only made one appearance for England, he has scored six goals and has bagged four assists for Chelsea this season. Gallagher has scored one goal, in four appearances for England.
England shares Group B of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, alongside Iran, Wales, and the USA.
