An Indian citizen, Nikhil Gupta, is facing charges in the United States for allegedly conspiring to assassinate a U.S. citizen advocating for a sovereign Sikh state. This was announced by the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan on Wednesday.
Gupta, arrested by Czech authorities in June, awaits extradition with no available comment.
Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor, Damian Williams, stated,
“The defendant orchestrated a conspiracy from India to assassinate a U.S. citizen of Indian origin who actively supports the establishment of a sovereign state for Sikhs, right here in New York City.”
