The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced that the 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will commence nationwide on August 18, 2025. This marks the beginning of a critical exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Online Registration Starts First
According to a statement shared on INEC’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the commission revealed that the online pre-registration portal will open on August 18. This will allow eligible Nigerians to begin the registration process from the comfort of their homes via cvr.inecnigeria.org.
By launching the online platform first, INEC aims to reduce overcrowding at physical centres and encourage more people, especially young voters, to participate in the democratic process.
Physical Registration Begins August 25
While the online portal will open on August 18, in-person registration will begin on August 25. INEC confirmed that registration will take place at all its Local Government Area offices and other designated registration centres across Nigeria.
The exercise will be conducted from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm daily.
In its statement, INEC emphasised:
“Your vote starts with registration. Don’t miss your opportunity to register.”
INEC Cautions Against Underage and Multiple Registration
As part of its awareness campaign, INEC also warned Nigerians against underage registration and multiple registrations, stating that such actions are punishable and could lead to disqualification from the voters’ roll.
This reminder is part of the commission’s effort to maintain the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s voter register.
Full Nationwide Operation for 2025 CVR
INEC made it clear that the 2025 voter registration will be a full nationwide exercise, covering all 774 local government areas. The commission assured Nigerians that it is fully prepared to handle the expected turnout and will work to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
