The management of the Plateau State University in Bokkos, has suspended academic activities in the institution for 10 days over the killing of a second year student of the institution.
Mr Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of the institution, had made this known through a statement on Saturday, April 20 in Jos.
This development is coming after gunmen, on Thursday night, attacked Chikam, a neighbouring community to the university, and killed a student, identified as Dading Jordan in the process.
The Registrar had said that the decision was made after the university declared a two-day mourning in honour of the killed student.
Ayuba’s statement read:
“Following the sad incident that occurred in Plateau University, Bokkos, and the surrounding communities, the school management has taken the distressing decision to close the University for 10 days with effect as from Friday, April 19. This decision is to allow the security situation in the area to improve and reduce further loss of human life on the university community.”“Accordingly, the ongoing first semester examinations are now suspended and will resume on Thursday, May 2,” the statement concluded.
The registrar said buses had been supplied to convey students who may be stranded from the university to Barkin Ladi.
