Major League Soccer is ready for the imminent MLS Cup playoff entrance from star man Lionel Messi as Inter Miami CF clinched the top seed in the wake of a first-ever Supporters’ Shield on Wednesday after a 3-2 win over Columbus Crew. The Herons will start their postseason on October 25th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and have earned home-field advantage through the playoffs.
But with an overwhelming interest shown by the fans, MLS announced on Thursday that Messi’s playoff opener will be live-streamed for free on Apple TV and will be shown live on the huge 25,000-square-foot screen in New York’s Times Square. It will be a standalone event on the league schedule.
Inter Miami will be through to take on the winner of the Eastern Conference wild-card match on October 22nd, while CF Montreal and Toronto FC sit in eighth and ninth spots, respectively. The final playoff bracket will take place on October 19th after the last day of regular season play.
Since he joined MLS back in July of 2023, Messi has already been able to make an impact, leading Miami to the Leagues Cup title. The Supporters Shield is his 46th career trophy, continuing to add to the new chapter in his illustrious career.
