Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez was involved in a tragic road accident in the province of Como that resulted in the death of a man in an electric wheelchair. Italian police have stated that the deadly collision happened when the road in which the electric wheelchair was moving is said to have been crossed by the car of Martinez, the wheelchair’s driver.

Authorities told Reuters “The car driven by Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez hit a man who was in an electric wheelchair travelling on a cycle path alongside a road in the province of Como.
“Martinez stopped his car to help the man, who died before the ambulance arrived.”The investigation by local authorities aims to shed light on the exact details of the accident. The news conference waiting to be held by Inter Milan ahead of their Serie A home match against Fiorentina on Wednesday has been cancelled by the club, which has also refused to comment further on the incident.
Martinez, 27, transferred from Genoa to Inter in 2024 and has been the club’s goalkeeper, second choice, this season. The Spanish international, who has also represented Las Palmas and RB Leipzig, has played 12 times for the Nerazzurri since his coming to San Siro.
