Iran’s deputy defence minister announced the completion of arrangements for the acquisition of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets and helicopters from Russia.
Tehran and Moscow are strengthening their military ties, with plans in place for the integration of these new aircraft into Iran’s Army combat units.
The deal includes Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets, Mil Mi-28 attack helicopters, and Yak-130 jet trainers. Iran’s air force, currently relying on a limited fleet that includes Russian and aging U.S. models, anticipates bolstering its capabilities through this agreement.
Despite the Tasnim news agency’s report, there is no official confirmation from the Russian side. In 2018, Iran had initiated the production of the domestically-designed Kowsar fighter, resembling the U.S.-produced F-5 from the 1960s, yet the latest deal signifies a strategic move toward modernizing its air force with advanced Russian aircraft.
