Notable terrorist group, Islamic State, IS, has claimed that its fighters had targeted a church in Kogi State in October 2022, killing two persons in the process.
The terrorist group had made the claims through an Instagram page post.
Recall that in October 2022, suspected gunmen now likened to terrorists had attacked the church service at the Celestial Church of God in the Felele area of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, killing two persons and injuring three worshippers in the process.
Witnesses’ reports had it that the terrorists had been fully armed and had attacked the church during service and begun shooting sporadically which made everyone scamper to safety.
Two people had died on the spot, while the injured had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, in Lokoja.
The IS group had claimed on behalf of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), boasting that it had carried out 15 successful terrorist attacks in the state alone in 2022.
The IS group also revealed that the attackers used automatic weapons in the announcement.
But the group had not provided detailed information on whether the attackers were able to enter the church building.
