Israel has released footage showcasing a tunnel purportedly excavated by militants beneath Gaza Strip’s largest hospital, a prime target in its ongoing search-and-destroy operations against Hamas amid the ongoing seven-week conflict. While acknowledging an extensive network of clandestine tunnels and bunkers across the Palestinian enclave, Israel accuses Hamas of placing them in civilian infrastructure like hospitals.

The Israeli military disclosed that its engineers unearthed a 10-meter deep tunnel stretching 55 meters, leading to a blast-proof door. The military asserted that such doors are employed by Hamas to obstruct Israeli forces from accessing command centers and underground assets.
The accompanying video depicted a narrow passage with arched concrete roofing, culminating at a grey door. The statement, however, did not specify what lay beyond the door, emphasizing that the tunnel’s entrance was discovered through a shaft located in a shed within the Shifa compound containing munitions.
