Jannik Sinner with his first Wimbledon championship and fourth major Grand Slam major by crushing Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s final of Sunday’s at the All England Club is unforgettable.
The 22-year-old Italian, the top seed and world number one, recovered from his painful loss to Alcaraz in the French Open final last month with a calm and sharp performance on Centre Court.
Sinner fired 40 winners and eight aces in three hours and six minutes to become the first Italian man in history to win the Wimbledon singles title, breaking Matteo Berrettini’s runner-up finish in 2021.
After losing the first set to a rejuvenated Alcaraz, Sinner fought back with determination, blasting to a 2-0 lead in the second and still playing well to win the set. The third set was almost the same with Sinner’s steadiness forcing a key break in the ninth game.
Alcaraz tried to make a comeback in the fourth set by creating two break points at 4-3, but Sinner played well. On his second match point, the Italian was still celebrating as Sinner had a historic moment after Alcaraz finished on the court.
By winning the match, Sinner not only dethroned Alcaraz but also ended his dream of becoming the Wimbledon champion again.
