Saudi Arabia has confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, signaling the start of the 12th Islamic month. This announcement was made on Thursday.

As a result, tomorrow will mark the beginning of the holy month. The Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 is set to start on Friday, June 14, with the day of Arafah observed on Saturday, June 15.

This development means that Eid Al-Adha, the largest Muslim festival, will be celebrated on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Arafat Day, which comes before the festival, will be observed on June 15.

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court urged all Muslims in the Kingdom to take part in sighting the crescent moon of the Arabic month Dhu Al Hijjah. This effort aims to determine the start of the new and final month of the Hijri calendar, as well as the exact day the festival will occur.

Eid Al-Adha, the largest Islamic festival, occurs on the 10th of Dhu Al-Hijjah. Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid ul-Adha on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

It is the second major Islamic festival, following Eid-ul-Fitr.
