Ahmed Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Imo state.
Federal character gathered that the former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan was killed by the rampaging brigands while returning to Abuja from Owerri, Imo State capital.
The South-South and South East part of the country have become hotbed for deadly attacks and criminal activities. Public buildings housing government institutions have been razed in recent months, escalating tension in the beleaguered regions that are already grappling with social unrest and sectarian violence of IPOB members.
Security operatives have been killed in the series of sustained coordinated attacks, a situation that has led to militarisation of the region as federal government ramp up efforts to address the situation.
Gulak is the first high profile personality to be caught in the web of perennial violence in the region.
