Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has allowed the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano to petition for bail.
The judge had also directed for Obiano to be restricted to the court jurisdiction.
He directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to pledge the defendant’s travel documents with the court registrar.
Afterwards, Ekwo ordered the registrar to inform the Nigerian Immigration Service of the development.
Slyvanus Tahir, SAN, the prosecution counsel had appealed to the court to remand Obiano.
He afterwards shifted the case till March 4, 5, 6 and 7 for the continuation of trial.
This news update is coming after the EFCC arraigned Willie Obiano before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday for alleged money laundering to the tune of N4,008,573,350 belonging to the Anambra State government while he was in office.
This was after the ex-Governor was nabbed at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos, on March 17, 2022 as he was preparing to board a flight to Houston, the United States of America.
A charge filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, revealed that the EFCC would be prosecuting the former governor on a nine-count charge verging on fraudulent withdrawal of security vote and money laundering.
