Just In: NNPP Suspends Kwankwaso

The Board of Trustees–BoT– of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has suspended Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, its former presidential candidate for the February 25 presidential election, for purported anti-party activities.

The Board of Trustees had also suspended the National Working Committee, NWC, members of the party and appointed new national officers led by Dr Agbo Major as the new acting National Chairman and Mr Ogini Olaposi as the new Acting National Secretary.

This suspension will be for a period of six months.

While addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, August 28, the Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi claimed that Kwankwaso was fraternising with President Bola Tinubu, from the political party of the All Progressive Congress, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr. Peter Obi, without the board’s authorisation and approval.

Abdullahi had declared that Kwankwaso was immediately been stripped of his NNPP national leader status by the board.

The secretary of the BoT had said that the alleged suspension of the NNPP founder was an immense violation of the party’s constitution.

He had also pointed out that Aniebonam had quit as the BoT chairman and a new BoT Chairman, Dr Tope Aluko, elected with Abdulahi as new BoT Secretary. Also, High Chief Tony Obioha was appointed as the BoT spokesperson.

Abdulahi additionally, commented that the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement (TNM) and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, (NAGAFF) had been considered void by the actions of the NWC.

In Abdulahi’s words:
“The BoT concluded that the material evidence in the public sector confirmed that Kwankwaso was involved in anti-party activities in several meetings. These meetings involve political discussions with the President, Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku and Peter Obi without prior permission from the board.

“This act has earned him six months suspension until the outcome of investigation by the Disciplinary Committee is concluded.”
