The political crisis in Rivers State doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon as the state House of Assembly Complex was demolished early Wednesday morning.
This is coming as Governor Siminalayi Fubara presented the N800bn 2024 budget estimate to the Edison Ehie-led group at the Government House, the same moment the bulldozing was being carried out.
The Ehie group was acknowledged by the court as the Speaker of the House.
The budget presentation was held at a hall in the Government House, supposedly, due to the “refurbishing” work being carried out at the state assembly complex which began early Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the demolition of the complex was carried out by the state government.
Bulldozers appeared at the Complex at about 6am on Wednesday and started the demolition exercise. Note that fire had gutted this complex two months ago.
Also, recall that twenty-seven members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, had on Monday, switched sides from the Peoples Democratic Party –PDP to the All Progressives Congress –APC.
These members were reportedly loyal to Martins Amaewhule, Nyesom Wike’s ally, a former governor of the state.
The exit of the lawmakers was said to be a direct response to the mass flight of some grass-root politicians from the APC and Social Democratic Party –SDP, to the PDP only last weekend.
