Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has sparked an outrage with his latest advice on whom ladies should date. The multi-award-winning actor took to his Instagram account to share what he felt a woman would have to sacrifice if she wanted her man. According to him, Kanayo said: “If you don’t want a man who is broke, you are going to have to put up with a busy one.”

While his statement was straightforward, the reactions it elicited certainly were not. Women from all walks of life weighed in, and the opinions were far from unanimous.

The “Busy but Rich” Advocates

Some women fully backed Kanayo’s perspective, arguing that financial stability often requires sacrifice. “I’ll take a busy man any day,” one commenter said. “At least I’ll know he’s out there securing the bag, not sitting at home asking me for transport money!”

Another chimed in, “Let’s be real, ladies. Men who are successful don’t have time to Netflix and chill all day. I’d rather deal with a busy schedule than an empty bank account.”

The “Money Can’t Buy Time” Crew

On the flip side, many women were quick to challenge Kanayo’s stance, emphasizing the importance of emotional availability. “What’s the point of having money if I’m basically single in the relationship?” one user wrote. “I need a partner, not an ATM.”

Another critic didn’t hold back, saying, “This ‘broke or busy’ narrative is tired. Can’t we just have balance? There are men out there who can make money AND make time, don’t let these men gaslight you into settling.”

The Bigger Conversation

Kanayo’s statement taps into a deeper conversation about modern relationships and the compromises people are willing to make. To many, at a time when many women are independent financially, it feels so old-fashioned to “choose” between being broke or busy.

It is best encapsulated by one commenter, who said, “Why are we still framing relationships as if women choose between two evils? We deserve men who prioritize us, whether they’re rich or not.”

As the debate goes on, one thing is obvious: relationships are not all about a fat account balance or how free one may be. Kanayo might have incited a spicy topic of discussion, but he simply reiterated that every woman’s priorities will be valid and that she has every right to make up her own standards, no matter what the “gentleman’s code” will say.

So ladies, what’s your pick; broke, busy, or balanced?
