In a long-awaited development, the Lagos State Police authorities have taken a controversial step by exhuming the remains of the late singer, Mohbad, in order to commence a thorough autopsy. The circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, which occurred just last week under mysterious circumstances, ignited outrage among Nigerians, who have been demanding justice for him.

Mohbad, officially known as Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, was hastily buried less than a day after his demise. However, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed that Mohbad’s remains were exhumed at his graveside in the Gberigbe area of Ikorodu. This extraordinary action was carried out in collaboration with health officials.

On Monday, the Lagos police authorities established a 13-member committee to investigate Mohbad’s death. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu went a step further by involving the Department of State Services (DSS) in the probe. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, had given explicit orders for a thorough investigation into the rapper’s passing.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), quoted the IGP as issuing a “direct and urgent directive” to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, instructing him to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the singer’s tragic demise.

In the wake of doubts and questions surrounding Mohbad’s death, numerous Nigerians demanded a meticulous investigation, prompting protests across the nation. Demonstrators took to the streets in various cities, brandishing placards with demanding inscriptions and organizing candlelight processions.

Senator Elisha Abbo, accompanied by Nollywood stars Iyabo Oyo and Tonto Dikeh, visited Mohbad’s family in the Lekki area of Lagos State on Thursday. During this visit, the lawmaker reassured the family of justice and pledged to lead an effort to establish a Creative Economy Commission. This initiative aims to address conflicts within the creative industry, including disputes related to record labels and artist contracts.

Amidst the controversy, Naira Marley has become the target of intense criticism and condemnation. Allegations suggest that he may have mistreated the late singer before his untimely death, adding complexity to the matter. Only a thorough and unbiased investigation can uncover the truth, assuming that the police remain impartial.

Mohbad’s death is a tragic loss, and the hope of many is that justice will prevail. Naira Marley has already faced repercussions, experiencing a drop in Instagram followers, and some of his songs have been banned in certain places. The saga continues, as Nigerians anxiously await the results of the investigation.
