The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) recently conducted its monitoring and enforcement operations, resulting in the removal of 15 illegal attachments at Divine Homes Estate in Thomas Estate, Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, the General Manager of LASBCA, highlighted that these 15 attachments had been unlawfully converted from residential to commercial usage by their owners, which has become a concerning trend in the construction sector of the State.
During the investigation, it was discovered that certain sections of residential units, including boys’ quarters and other parts of buildings in Divine Homes Estate, were illegally transformed into shops and utilized for various commercial activities. This blatant disregard for the state’s physical planning regulations and building codes posed a significant threat to the original residential design of the estate.
To address the issue, the owners of the illegal attachments had been previously served with Statutory Notices, including Contravention, Quit, and Demolition Notices. These notices urged the owners to revert to the original building plan approval granted by the government, but they failed to comply, leading to the removal of the illegal attachments.
Oki reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens. LASBCA remains dedicated to thorough and effective monitoring of ongoing construction projects throughout the State. By promoting a well-planned, secure, and sustainable development, LASBCA aims to eradicate all forms of illegality and maintain the unique character of each neighbourhood.
Additionally, LASBCA expressed its readiness to collaborate with Estate Executives and concerned citizens, fostering robust monitoring and enforcement activities. This collaborative effort will uphold building regulations, prioritize safety, and preserve the distinctive qualities of every community across the State.
