The recent death of a five-year-old child has propelled the Lagos State government to shut down Redeem private school in Lagos. The Lagos State Ministry of Education has revealed that a primary school pupil died during a lesson on swimming.
The state Ministry of Education had released a statement on Monday announcing that Redeemers Nursery and Primary School, Ogba, Ikeja would be shut down till investigations were concluded. According to a statement from authorities, the sad incident occurred earlier this year, in May during the regular swimming session the school organizes for its students.
The gist of the matter was that some teachers and caregivers of the school took the school children to Ivory Health Club, Ikeja for a swimming lesson and as the school kids were busy playing, the five-year-old fell into the pool where he drowned.
The Lagos State Ministry of Education has said that the school would remain closed until investigations had been done and to determine if the school followed the safety standards and guidelines of the Ministry.
Folasade Adefisayo, The Lagos State Commissioner for Education has also commented on the incident saying that the state government would work with the police to investigate the unfortunate death that took place at the school during swimming lessons.
