This afternoon in Rome, the list of 25 candidates for the most renowned award, the 2024 Golden Boy award, was published in Tuttosport; the best player must be under 21 years old. On December 17th in Turin, it will be known who will succeed Jude Bellingham.
Its other major contenders, though, come from four Spanish talents: Lamine Yamal, Samu Omorodion, Pau Cubarsi, and Christhian Mosquera. Yamal is the favourite following an incredible 2024, a year which culminated in the winger helping Spain win the European Championship. The 17-year-old netted a superlative semi-final goal against France and was named the best young player in the tournament.
Tuttosport have also handed out five wild cards to this year’s competition, which means the likes of Tottenham’s Wilson Odobert, Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup and Real Madrid’s Endrick made the list. The rest of the nominees came from Football Benchmark rankings, including PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Rico Lewis of Manchester City.
With past Spanish winners including Gavi in 2022 and Pedri in 2021, Yamal is set to keep the good run going for Spain and take home the prestigious Golden Boy trophy.
