Quincy Jones, a celebrated American music producer and composer, died Wednesday, aged 91. According to his publicist, he died at his Bel Air estate in Los Angeles surrounded by family. Generally acclaimed for leading work in music and film, Jones had more than seven decades of accumulated activities.
Jones collaborated with the likes of musical legend Michael Jackson to create the iconic album Thriller, which went on to become one of the highest-selling albums of all time. He also conducted the iconic song We Are the World at a fundraising event that pooled various top artists and went on to raise several millions toward humanitarian causes.
With Jones breaking barriers in Hollywood, he was the first Black person nominated for an Academy Award Best Original Song; he won 28 Grammys out of 80 nominations. His family described him as irreplaceable while one celebrated his life and legacy.
