According to a news report by Channels Television, it took the prompt intervention of security officials to prevent the situation from further escalating as the protesters stormed the secretariat in large numbers, causing traffic congestion in the area.
The large number of protesters had compelled the security operatives to step in, in a bid to enforce control and manage the traffic congestion in the area.
This unrest is coming following the delay in the release of the 2023 Voters’ Register by the Independent National Electoral Commission to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
Despite the court ruling, Governor Siminalayi Fubara insisted that the election would move ahead as planned, with the belief that the Supreme Court’s previous ruling –which mandated all the states in the federation must have democratically elected local government executives– supports his stance.
