In a call to action on Saturday, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, urged all residents of the state to fulfill their civic duty by participating in the ongoing Local Government election.

The atmosphere across various neighborhoods of Ibadan, from UI to Agbowo, Bariika, Orogun, to Ojoo, was notably tranquil. Streets were deserted, shops shuttered, and taxis idle, leaving only motorcycles (Okada drivers) operating, albeit at exorbitant rates. Despite the quietude, the election proceeded peacefully.

Low Turnout Marks Oyo State Local Government Election as Governor Urges Participation

Scheduled by the State Independent Electoral Commission for Saturday, April 27, 2024, the council poll aimed to engage citizens in democratic decision-making.

However, our correspondent, keeping a watchful eye on the proceedings, noted a reluctance among eligible voters to engage in the electoral process.

Governor Makinde, after casting his vote at Ward 1, Unit 11 in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area, emphasized the importance of active citizenry in selecting capable leaders. He earnestly appealed to residents to embrace their civic duty and exercise their right to vote.

The ongoing local government election is slated to conclude by 3:00 pm.
